What are the retinal molecular signals guiding eye growth and how are they relayed from the retina to the choroid and sclera, which define the position of the retina relative to the focal plane of the eye?

From an anatomical perspective, the role of the retinal pigment epithelium, which is interposed strategically between the retina and the structural eye wall components (choroid & sclera), was expected to play a key role as a signal relay. Recent research lends strong support to this notion, with on-going research opening up novel possibilities for controlling myopic eye growth.
